about trance
As I mentioned before it finally happened again: I shelled out some cash for a trance audio cd. It's not like I haven't bought cd's, it's just that I haven't really encountered too many interesting discs in the trance area (I've been mostly buying progressive lately). If I remember correctly, Nyana was the last trance I bought and it left me with mixed feelings.
But then News, Belgium's premium electronica record company, released their second "Heaven" compilation, aptly named "Heaven 2". I'm not here to comment about the name or artwork, it isn't very original or groundbreaking, but it suffices. It's the music that counts anyway.
And the music is plain heavenly (no really?). I don't know who is choosing the tracks down there, but it might as well be by some mind reader. At least my musical choice seem to be an open book to him/them. This is a really brilliant compilation of old and recent trance tracks. It's vocal trance with a twist of progressive. Or deep trance or whatever. It's the stuff you hear on your best nights out.
For the full tracklist I suggest you check out the news site but here's a quick glance at the cd2: it starts with Sasha & Maria's "Be as one". There really are no words to describe how classic this track is and on top of that you get the (very) full length version. With that in mind we dive in for a progressive trance journey featuring gems such as Orielle's "All I want" (the 4tune 500 remix) and Sam Mollison's "Cry" (in the Fade Sanctuary mix). Every one of these plays for it's entire length, not counting the 2 seconds crossfade between tracks (not sure why they did that, but it didn't bother me that much). To top it all off, cd 2 ends with Peyote's "Alcatraz". Ask any one who's ever heard this at Kokorico and they'll just stare speechless at you trying to find words to describe the effect "Alcatraz" has on the crowd there. Classic.
Cd 1 is just more of the same, which is a very very Good Thing in this case, but I gotta go check out Pandora Tomorrow now :)
