Hallucinogen - Shaky Shaker

Here's another one while you're all waiting for the new site (ahum), which should be finished by the end of the month. Don't hold your breath though, it's just a hobby for me so I haven't really got any tight schedules.

Anyway, to the topic at hand: Distance to Goa 7. A compilation CD featuring Goa tracks. Now that the obvious part is out of the way some more details: released in 1998 by Distance. Sadly Distance's website is out of order and I can't really find any recent releases so I'm going to assume the worst. The wayback machine last updated the page in March of this year with a last update being April 8th 2003 so I really don't know. Feel free to enlighten me, because Distance had a real great line of compilation albums ("My House" is also a personal favorite).

If you haven't heard any Goa music you should really check it out. It certainly isn't everybody's cup of tea but if you're into trance and are looking for a change from the usual epic vocal trance you might be pleasantly surprised. Goa is a pretty broad genre but overall the use of 303-like sounds, the absence of vocals (except for a few samples now and then) and the techno-like (but not quite) repetitiveness are what characterize it. There's a host of subgenres like psychedelic and full-on etc but I'd rather not go into mindless and endless discussions. Just listen to the sample provided here and make your mind up.

Hallucinogen's Shaky Shaker is the 5 track of the compilations and I think that's the perfect spot to put it since it's a pretty energetic tune and one of the "harder" track's.

Goa isn't just about the music it's also a lifestyle. Just check out community sites like Goabase to get a glimpse of what it is. Sometimes they're a bit elitist with the no flyer - no entrance rules, but overall this is probably one of the most friendly communities to drop into. Especially the summer festivals are 100% recommended if you want to experience the whole goa "thing".

This album should be fairly easy to track down since it's pretty widespread and probably available worldwide. You could buy "Distance to Goa 7" from Amazon.co.uk and do me a favor, but really, just pick the shop you like.
