More evidence of war for profit. This clearly wont be big in mainstream media, but this event has strong ramifications. Today Richard Perle, one of the chief architects of the war on Iraq (planned back in 1998) has resigned today as chair of the Defense Policy Board over allegations of conflicts of interest. Perle was basically openly engaged in the practice that this entire administration dabbles in: making money on defense contracts while pushing for war - which would build up their profits. As such he was also one of Reagan's major opponents of arms control - again because he could make money off the construction of more weapons. This comes in conjunction with the US govt already awarding lucrative reconstruction contracts to Halliburton, which still pays Cheney a $1 Million annual stipend. This war is not about morality. This war is not about terrorism. This war is not about liberty. This war is for the profits of a few at the expense of the gullibility of the many. More on Perle's conflict of interest: Seymour M. Hersh, "Lunch with the Chairman," New Yorker, 3/16/03; Stephen Labaton, "Pentagon Adviser Is Also Advising Global Crossing," NYT, 3/21/03, p. C1 [MidEastLog]
