It's been a while since I last visited this site but it's still up and running and just as depressing as ever. Enter your date of birth, your bmi and whether you smoke or not. It calculates your expected day of death and then counts down the seconds you have left. Really cheerful stuff, right? The site has other equally compelling but morbid features. A large death clock you can bookmark. A death clock screen saver. You can even order a T-shirt emblazoned with the death clock. Why anybody would want one is another story. But the site is a not-so-subtle reminder how time is indeed ticking away and it very effectively makes the point that smoking or being overweight are not good ideas.... [Tech-Knowledge]

“The Topix.net team has created artificial intelligence algorithms that continuously monitor breaking news from over 6,000 sources, 24 hours a day. These algorithms read every story as it is released and then categorize each one into one or more of the more the 150,000 ‘topix.net’ pages that we created. Currently, the Topix.net web page inventory consists of separate pages for the 30,000 US cities and towns, 5,500 public company and industry verticals, 48,000 celebrities and musicians, 1,500 sports teams and personalities, and many, many more.” In the right column of each and every topix.net page you’ll find the orange XML-button: a feed ready to slurp into your feedreader!
