Command line linking?. I'd been aware of Mozilla's ability to let you assign a keyword to a URL and then link to that URL by entering that keyword in the navigation bar, but hadn't bothered to use it. Now that I know that we can add parameters to the keyword to be plugged into the URL, I'm treating the navigation bar more and more like a command line for linking, and I'm wondering how I got along without it. OpenSIMS integrates network security tools. Symbiot Inc. announced on Tuesday the immediate availability of OpenSIMS, an open source solution that ties together the security tools and collaborative risk metrics currently in use on a network. OpenSIMS uses Java and XML as its foundation and employs an in-browser console created with Macromedia Flash. Symbiot has made the software available under the Apache Software Foundation's 2.0 license agreement; long-term plans include migrating it into the foundation's incubator. OpenSIMS requires Mac OS X Server v10.3. [MacCentral]

The Anti-Slashdot. This is both a confessional, and a repentance. It is a coming to grips with the fact that websites have been trying to emulate slashdot for years and to it's credit it has endured while imitators withered. It is an acknowledgement that none other will be slashdot and that none more should try. This is a declaration to be the anti-slashdot. [O'Reilly Weblogs]
