More on the space settlement summit http://www.spacedaily.com/news/oped-03y.html

In a column published on SpaceDaily Thursday, John Carter McKnight offers another insight into the recent space settlement summit in Los Angeles earlier this month. McKnight was a participant of the summit and served on a working group to deal with media and public outreach issues—a group that McKnight said could not come up with an action plan. In particular, he mentions that "the tin ear for how Westward-ho themes play to contemporary audiences caused a fracture." His report also explains why The Planetary Society was essentially the only major space activist group not included in the summit's press release: Planetary Society executive director Lou Friedman attended part of the summit but could not sign on because the society is focused on robotic planetary exploration rather than the human settlement the summit was trying to promote.
