History of Blogs?
They reach way back to 1997. Blogs are portals to WWW resources that you may not find during your normal WWW forays.
Here are four links, spread over the past four years, talking about blogs, how they started, how they have evolved and where they may be headed.
1. From CamWorld, 26Jan1999, Anatomy of a Weblog, by Cameron Barrett.
2. From Rebecca's Pocket, 07Sep2000, weblogs: a history and perspective, by Rebecca Blood.
3. From Writers Write, Jul/Aug2002, A Practical Guide to Blogging, by Greg Knollenberg.
4. From The Guardian, 30Jan2003, New biz on the blog, by Jim McClellan.

What is a Blog?
Blog is short for, or rather, a derivative of Weblog--a log on the WWW. It is intended to be an easier, more relaxed format for public participatory interaction regarding a specific topic--in this case ASLAcomputing.
I set this up. I am Ed Flaherty, Chair of the ASLA Computing Professional Interest Group. I am hopelessly incurable about the WWW being an advantage for the professional workplace. I am looking for ways to make it easier and quicker for all of us. The richness of this resource depends on how often you visit ASLAcomputingBlog and how often you ask a question, or...comment on what is here and add your own stuff.
It is an experiment in developing communication paradigms on the WWW. You observe in real life, you send a succinct comment here, an image in an email... You find an interesting WWW resource, you send a succinct comment and link here. You have a question, you send it here.
You see a question here that you can answer, you send a succinct answer here. I'll feed in stuff from time to time to stir the pot. I hope you'll stir the pot, too.

Why ASLAcomputingBlog?
1. The ASLA computing discussion group is moribund.
2. My introductory email to 179 ASLA computing professional interest group subscribers yielded only 4 return posts, almost moribund.
3. ...but I guess that some of the 179 of you may have some questions and interests in ASLAcomputing...
4. So this, ASLAcomputingBlog, is a trial, I hope it may be an easier participatory interface for busy professionals.
