Back when the US was first considering digital TV, computer graphics pioneer Alvy Ray Smith argued that the new standard should eliminate legacy video baggage such as interlacing and non-square pixels. That battle was lost years ago, but the debate looks amazingly like the bellhead/nethead conflict that's going on now. [Hack the Planet]
