I've been writing this weblog in my mind for over a year wondering if there is enough time in the day to do it justice, to create something worthwhile and worth reading. I set February 1, 2003 as the start day for the weblog. And you all know what happened on February 1. The eyes of the world were riveted skyward as the Space Shuttle Columbia broke into pieces upon re-entry.
So, instead, I wrote about what people in the workplace can do for people who are experiencing tragedy. First published following September 11, 2001, the piece was fitting for the loss of the hero astronauts as well.
I am a long-time supporter of the space program. I don't have the courage to visit the stars or the planets, but they are nightly wonders in my life. One of my favorite quotations expresses these feelings well:
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
--Leonardo daVinci

I found a very nice website recently called Winning Workplaces. The depth of the material on the site is exciting and well-written. The section, Success Stories, offers real world examples of organizations practicing the concepts, such as trust and recognition, that make a winning workplace.
