The number one reason people leave their current employer is that they cannot work for their boss or manager. Most people will not put up with a manager who is abusive, nasty, controlling, or dictatorial. They retire on managers who have unreasonable expectations because they know they cannot succeed. If a manager is a micro-manager, looking into and watching all aspects of the employee's work, your best people will not tolerate this behavior.
In any of these instances, you should see a pattern of good people leaving your employ. Some may complain to the Human Resources department or to a second level manager, but, by the time an employee works up the courage to seek outside help, it may be too late. Watch and listen, counsel and guide. Maybe it's the manager who needs to leave your employ.
