I'm writing today about the fear people may be experiencing as war with Iraq appears imminent. Many people lost their peace of mind with the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001. Talk of the war on terrorism and the founding of the Office of Homeland Security increase that jittery feeling you may have. Raising national alerts to orange provides a constant state of tension nationally.
No one I know is really "for" war; people express either opposition to the war or an air of inevitability based on the actions of Saddam Hussein. But, almost everyone is experiencing some kind of an emotional reaction to all of these changes in our daily lives. And where do most of us spend the most hours each day? At work, of course. So, I'm writing about what employers can do to ease the tension, fears and concerns at work.
I find that there is not a lot of information available about this topic. Today, I spent a great deal of time researching. I found a few quotes to share along the way. The article will be available Friday.
Quotes:
Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it and die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours. -- Dale Carnegie
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -- Mark Twain
Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen. --John Steinbeck
