Book Club Learning

Well, tomorrow is income tax day in the United States. I m never ready so usually file an extension. The funny thing is that, as an independant consultant, I pretty much have to have all the information together to even file the extension. This year, I am turning over a new leaf and getting it in sooner, instead of later.

Earlier this year, at TechSmith Corporation, we had twenty or so people participate in a book club. The idea is to read a book together, a chapter a week. Then meet for lunch on Thursday. At the lunch, staff members take turns leading the discussion about the week's chapter. They then, take turns leading the discussion about the implications of the chapter knowledge for the company.

This is a good way to develop internal knowledge and a learning organization. It is also a great way to share meaning and content concepts that then become part of the organization's language, history, and culture.

Warmly,
