Generations at Work

It's May 1 and I have decided that life is just generally moving faster these days. I read, once, that there is an actual scientific explanation for this feeling of time passing so quickly as we grow older. I'll share it when I find it again.

I'm interviewing people this week for managerial/supervisory-type positions. You won't likely be surprised to find that every candidate is asking me about "quality of work life" issues. They want to work; they want to contribute; they are willing to sometimes work long hours, but they want to place an equal emphasis on "family and leisure" time. I think I am interviewing the "I am not my work" generation.

Smart young people, actually. I have preached to people for years that "you are not your work - it is just one aspect of who you are." I think this generation heard me.

More coming on this as we begin hiring them, I am sure ... In the meantime, check out the inter-generational quiz I recently featured on my website.

When Generations Collide at Work

Warmly,

Susan
