Full Steam Ahead

In Full Steam Ahead, which I referenced yesterday, people learn how to create a vision that all organization members will find exciting, fulfilling, and worth achieving. This is a simple book, but it does the best job I've found of summarizing the components of a vision: describing how to make a vision, how to share and gain ownership for a vision, and how to keep a vision growing over time - how it's lived.

A vision must share your purpose, not just what you do for a living. It must clearly express the values that you base your actions on as you work toward accomplishing the vision. An effective vision must describe a picture of the future you are striving to attain.

I like the book's emphasis on both the organizational and the personal (self) vision. I'm trying to recapture the vision I once held so clearly for my life. I seem to have gone somewhat astray lately. The fundamentals are there, but the finesse is missing. So, I'll work on my organizations' as well as my personal vision.

See The Empowered Manager: Positive Political Skills At Work by Peter
Block for more about a personal, positive skill-oriented book review.

Warmly,

Susan
