Over my shoulder, geese are honking as they dip and rise down by my pond. (Their clamor distracts me from my work.)
The forest is heavy with moisture today and the air lays across the land like a blanket. I look out to see green today. The leaves that I watched emerge, even a week ago, have fully arrived for the summer.
A red-tailed hawk just landed in a tree directly outside of my window. As they are a sign of good luck, in the Mescalero Apache tradition, seeing one so close to me means great things will happen. They often soar over the forest but I have never seen one so close before.
This is also the season for the beautiful indigo bunting. They're around for such a short time every year. I catch my breath every time I see one, they are so blue, like a cloudless navy blue spring sky, mixed with the darkness of the midnight hour.
Bird-watching is a favorite hobby of mine.
