Theft Investigation

I am currently conducting an investigation into the theft of a client's product by employees. Learning all I need to know to protect both the employer's rights and the rights of the employee has been quite the learning curve for me.

When I worked at GM, the union played a huge role in any employee investigation, and the rules were all developed by others. Here, the plant manager and I are in charge and the plant supervisor is in tears because she trusted employees who have let her down. Tomorrow, I call the police, the attorney, and likely, the prosecutor. Our investigation today gives us reason to believe we have evidence about the thefts.

I know that some of you deal with this every day. My goal for June is to get some theft prevention training going. If you're a member, SHRM has several excellent articles at the "Members Only" website.

Warmly,

Susan
