Weddings on My Mind

Dear  People,

Both weddings went without a hitch; both were outside and the rain gods held back all day despite their earlier forecasts of rain all weekend. Each wedding was beautiful in its own way, but the table decorations were exceptional in each. The receptions were held inside.

One bride used mirrors with candles in glass globes with sparkling pieces of confetti all about the table. Each person had a satin rose which turned out to be a candy sack with a ribbon with the happy couple's names. A heart-shaped, sugar cookie and Hershey's kisses in a silver mesh bag were the gifts for guests. This couple supplied cards to the guests in lieu of a guest book. We placed our greetings to them in a lovely bird cage.

The second bride held an evening reception. Every seat back was encircled by silver ribbon holding a white rose and baby's breath. What a lovely site when entering the reception room! The centerpieces ranged from double decker hurricane lamps to candles and bunches of white roses. The room was breathtaking.

The cake rose up off the table in swirls and avoided the usual sense of  "just waiting to come tumbling down" that one so often sees in tiered wedding cakes. The sculpture atop the cake was unlike any I have ever seen and likely to hold a permanent placement in the newly wedded couple's home. They gave us a CD of their favorite music and we'll listen, but, I predict the songs will be new to us.

Bottom line? Two weddings is one too many in a single day, but we wouldn't have missed either for all the world. Two staff members move on to new lives and we, fortunately, were there to bless their passage.

On another note. This week marked the birth of another TechSmith baby. We held the company picnic last weekend and, I swear, I spent most of the afternoon holding staffer's new babies. (They're all under thirty so these weddings and babies were highly predictable.)

How do all of these generations interact? Take my quiz to find out.

When Generations Collide at Work - Quiz
In every workplace, at least three generations, with all their different needs and wants, try to peacefully co-exist. This quiz, from the authors of "When Generations Collide," will give you insight into the needs and wants of Boomers, Gen Xers, Traditionalists and Millenials. Curious?

Warmly,

Susan
