Dear People,
When we orient new employees, we have a standard HR couple of hours and hourly employees then train on the job. Managerial and salaried employees have an orientation that is custom designed for them. It may last one to two weeks and lets them meet the whole organization, their direct reports, and more. They should leave this orientation with a clear picture of the organization, its challenges, goals, and progress.
It is challenging to make sure they receive the chance to do the orientation while also beginning their new job. Neither can be put on hold. So, this morning, my current new director spent the morning helping to write an RFP for a potential customer. We postponed his time in the plant.
A budget meeting and more are causing us to juggle his orientation schedule this week. From an HR perspective, this may not be ideal for making sure he gets the organization overview, but it is ideal for helping him integrate quickly into the working business of the company - and that's the point. Right?
