October 27, 2000 859am CST One of the joys of living in an apartment instead of a dorm room is being able to cook on a regular basis. I lived in a dorm for three years, during which time I did not really have access to a kitchen. Instead, I ate up to three meals a day at the cafeteria and ordered pizza or chinese food when I didn't feel like eating cafeteria food. The hardest thing about eating in the cafeteria was that it was only open for a certain period of time. If I slept in, which I was inclined to do, I missed breakfast. If class ran late, I would miss lunch. They only served dinner until 7:30, 6:30 on weekends. I usually like to eat dinner around 8pm, so this schedule was really not convenient for me. I ended up spending around $50 a month on pizza and such.
Now, I never order pizza or chinese. I have ordered one pizza since August and have only had chinese when I have gone out to dinner. I can cook my food to my tastes, and I can have it whenever I want. It is so satisfying to be able to have rare steak with mushroom sauce and a beer on a Wednesday evening while watching Law and Order. That couldn't be done in the dorms.
