November 6, 2000 1029am CST Seems like everyone is reading Tolkien right now. Where do people get the time to read for fun? Whenever I sit down with fiction, which is not often, I don't get up all day. Reading is a worse productivity drain than television. Of course, If I didn't feel that I needed to be productive, I would probably read more. I usually read quite a bit during the summer. Right now, though, I have all this schoolwork to do, and I won't really get any relief until Thanksgiving. Lately, I have been rereading bits and pieces of Dante, which is ideal because one can read one or two canti at a time. I would like to go back to Bocaccio, too. I never finished the Decameron. And don't forget Tolkien. I haven't read the Lord of the Rings since middle school. There are all of these things that I would like to read, but I have a test tomorrow and two research papers due before Thanksgiving. Were I reading everything I wanted to, I would feel like I were neglecting my studies.
