The University of Kansas is found atop a hill called Mount Oread. This hill should be named something else, like "Big Hill" or "The Hill of the University of Kansas." After all, as large as the hill is, it is not a mountain, and there probably aren't any oreads in residence up here. I wouldn't be too surprised to see naiads or dryads around, but I would be shocked to find oreads running around. I mean, the hill is no more than a big mound of dirt, it's not very rocky. I imagine oreads would be out of their element here, kind of like penguins in Georgia or Kansans in Missouri. Anyway, I digress. The end result of having a big hill upon which the campus is set is high winds. Yes sir, if the wind blows strong at my apartment, which is a mere 4 blocks from campus, there is a veritable hurricane on the hill. Of course, today we have freezing temperatures and snow, so the weather up here is somewhat like a blizzard. Today, while walking across a parking lot, I saw the new snow blowing across the asphalt and back up into the air. It made the lot look like one of those barren wastelands that you see in movies. Kansas is so great.
