January 9, 2001 421pm CST Woohoo! Today, Steve Jobs announced the new Powerbook G4 and all of the sudden my 2000 model Powerbook G3 seems inadequate. This new thing is made out of titanium! It is the coolest looking notebook I have ever seen with its wide screen and slot loading DVD-ROM. Grr... That is the worst part about Apple's product announcements. It makes me want the new stuff. Now that my computer is no longer the best thing they make in its product category, I feel compelled to figure out how I can buy a new one. I didn't even mention the slobber-inducing new desktops with which Apple has finally broken the 500Mhz barrier. There is now a Mac with a 733Mhz G4 chip and a DVD-R/CD-RW drive from Pioneer. That's right. Recordable DVD. DVD authoring on a personal computer with easy to use software. All for a fairly modest price tag (considering that last month DVD-R drives were 2300 dollars by themselves). All of this new stuff, and I can't afford to buy gasoline. January 9, 2001 314pm CST School starts in a week. I'm not really looking forward to it, but I don't dread it either. The thing I look forward to the most this semester is spring weather. Though the last week here has been spring-like, it just doesn't have that "the world is new and everything's happy" feel to it. 3:13:44 PM    comment []
