January 15, 2001 1233pm CST I rarely ask the question "What is the meaning of life?" I am not really interested in that question, at least not when phrased that way, because it does not make sense to me. To me, the more important question is "What is the purpose of life?" The Westminster divines said that the chief end of man is "to glorify God and enjoy him forever." Others say that we should 'enjoy the ride;' that is to say we should participate in as much of the human experience as we can while we are still alive. Still others believe that we have no purpose, and the fact that we exist is a cosmic accident. It's fun to discuss these varying points of view, as well as the myriad others that exist on this topic. At the end of the day, though, I end up agreeing with the Christians. We are part of God's creation, and we should live in the way which he has ordained for us. We never do, however. We are constantly screwing up and rejecting the correct way of life. And God forgives us anyway. That is what life is about: thankfully receiving the gifts of God.
