January 25, 2001 421pm CST Scott has written about the importance of narrative in the communication of the Christian message. I tend to agree with him, though I do suppose that creeds and confessions are useful to the Christian. The thing I find most interesting is the idea that the means of communicating the message are unique. Church is utterly different from the classroom or the boardroom, and our homiletical and liturgical traditions reflect that difference. We need to be very careful about how we present the message, lest it be obscured, deemphasized or corrupted.
