Arghhh!!! Reblogger broke! Oh well. So Discuss is broken for the time being.

Hooray for the weekend!

Mr. Rogers is retiring :( His show was my favorite educational program on TV when I was little. I actually remember learning the difference between "before" and "after" on his show. In fact, I could already make the distinction in my head, but I didn't know the word "before", so I used "after" to refer to both concepts. Mr. Rogers is still the only educational childrens TV show I can tolerate. I even watched it in college. Sure, he was unhip. Mr. Rogers was downright square, but he told it like it is, and he didn't resort to rapid-cutting razzle-dazzle like Sesame Street and the Electric Company did. No, he sat in his chair, wearing his cardigan and slippers, and explained things to his audience. Get it? He used WORDS to communicate; his show was not about flashing images at thirty frames per second, but about patient, deliberate speech. This word-based style no longer exists in the American media, except maybe in articles written by William F. Buckley, Jr and radio broadcasts from Paul Harvey and Garrison Keilor. Mr. Rogers departure from the world of educational programming will be sorely missed.
