September 11, 2001 911pm CDT Do you want to know what piece of news coverage was the first to bring tears to my eyes today? It wasn't the footage of the plane barreling into the second tower, nor the terrified New Yorkers fleeing for their lives, nor the images of the injured in the makeshift medical wards. It was this quote from Tony Blair:
ìWe therefore, here in Britain, stand shoulder to shoulder with our American friends in this hour of tragedy and we like them will not rest until this evil is driven from our world.î

September 11, 2001 843pm CDT Once the initial shock of this day ends, the prevailing sentiment of the US will not be one of grief or sorrow, but of anger. Indeed, righteous indignation is the proper response to today's events. While we are certainly sorry for the loss suffered by our compatriots - airline passengers and crew, businesspeople, military personnel, tourists, rescue workers, and scads of others - the horror has already occurred - it is a reality - and we must deal with that. And we will. But another reality presents itself in the wake of the horror on the east coast. Life must go on. I believe that life will not continue like it has for Americans, but for all but an unlucky few, life will continue nonetheless. We must not neglect our domestic responsibilities. We must maintain a strong committment to our fundamental values of freedom and liberty. We must continue to maintain a strong national economy. We need to support our military and law enforcement personnel, our volunteers, our politicians in this crisis so that we may properly react to the enemy.
And we will react. We are angry. Someone has struck us without provocation. He has taken the lives of innocent civilians in an act, not only of terrorism, but of war. We will not leave ourselves open to that kind of attack. And we will not let it go unpunished. If the enemy wishes to be our enemy, that he shall be.
