Interesting... Even though we use the Latin words as the basis for our abbreviations of names for university degrees, the Latin words themselves are pretty much unused in the anglophone world. Take a look at Google searches for M.A. and Ph.D.. Lots of hits, but not many in English. Even in Great Britain, where the degrees names are clearly abbreviated from Latin (who would abbreviate "Master of Letters" as "M.Litt."?) the use of the full Latin names has fallen out of favor. I think I'm going to start being pretentious and call my degree "Baccalaureus Artium."
