I doubt any news story this year has had a greater effect on me than the recently-resolved hostage situation in Moscow. This has been a terrible tragedy, and its resolution was a very difficult matter which will no doubt remain controversial for some time. I wish I could find a more effective voice and a more public forum in which to express my sympathies and condolences, such as an internationally televised gathering at some historic landmark where a bunch of Americans raise a Russian flag. Unfortunately, there are none of those around, so this blog will have to do.

Hooray for the annual Late-October Dress Up Festival! Most people call it Halloween, a few Samhain, and we wacky Lutherans call it the Festival of the Reformation. In any event, it means costumes, bobbing for apples, and candy-eating, all of which were a part of last evenings activities. I had blue hair (just for one evening). I demonstrated to a large group of 3rd through 6th graders how to bob for apples. I ate candy corn. I even tried my friend Matt's home brew -- after the 3rd through 6th graders had left, of course.
