Well, I am not coming home for Thanksgiving. I am disappointed, because I really wanted to see my family and friends in Manhattan. I have a lot of things to do here, though, and the prospect of driving eleven hours each way when I could be catching up on end-of-the-semester stuff does not thrill me. Fortunately, several of my friends will be staying here, so I do not have to spend Thanksgiving alone.
It is interesting how, when you are in college, your close friends become a kind of a surrogate family. Since we are all removed from our real families, we develop networks where we spend lots of time with our friends. We share meals; we share our lives; we admonish one another to get our work done. And we don't really have to make plans to spend time with our friends: it just sort of happens.
