Prison staff 'too low for safety'
The safety of inmates and wardens at Wales' only privately-run jail cannot be guaranteed because staffing levels are too low. The chief inspector of prisons, Anna Owers, revealed her concerns on Friday in a report into HM Parc Prison, near Bridgend.

Prison wins official praise
A North Yorkshire prison criticised by inspectors two years ago has been commended for making huge improvements. Chief Inspector of Prisons Anne Owers said much of the poor practice at Northallerton Young Offender Institution had been rectified.

Bid to make prisoners volunteers
A conference at Leyhill Open Prison in South Gloucestershire will hear the best way to stop former inmates re-offending is to turn them into volunteers.
Prison staff say when prisoners are given a chance to carry out voluntary work and take on extra responsibilities they are much less likely to re-offend.
