Clothes From Colossians: Wearing The "Do-Rag" Of Forgiveness Clothes From Colossians: Wearing The "Do-Rag" Of Forgiveness Definition: Do-Rag: A scarf or kerchief worn as a head covering, often tied at the nape of the neck. (American Heritage® Dictionary) As Paul addressed the Church at Colosse, he spoke of the clothes that we as Christians need to don on a daily basis. In the middle of his discussion on these clothes (Col. 3:12-14) he speaks of the need for Christians to "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (v.13)". Do you think if Paul lived today he might refer to our "bearing with each other and forgiving" - within the context of his clothes analogy - as "Wearing The Do-Rag Of Forgiveness"? If you think about it - it does make sense. A Do-Rag can certainly serve a positive purpose - and if worn and maintained properly it can provide among other things: - Protection From External Elements (Barrier Preventing Sun/Rain/Dust From Effecting Eyes/Ears/Nose/Mouth/Skin)
- Protection From Internal Elements (Barrier Preventing Perspiration From Effecting Eyes/Ears/Nose/Mouth/Skin)
- Presentation Of Preferences (Color/Style/Group Loyalties/Associations)
If we are "Wearing The Do-Rag Of Forgiveness" (i.e. "bearing with each other and forgiving") we are following Christ's example and will experience deeper and more vibrant relationships because we: - Will Grow To Be More Accepting Of Those Who Have Offended Us - Without Trying To Change Them
- Will Feel Different About Those Who Have Offended Us
- Will Become More Concerned About The Needs Of Those Who Have Offended Us Than We Are About Our Needs
Extract From The Struggle With Unforgiveness/Charles Stanley Mark Twain once noted that "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." We could also state the same about our lives as Christians - for without the clothing Christ provides - we are naked and will have little or no influence on others. As believers seeking to positively represent Christ - let's ensure we are fully clothed - to include "Wearing The Do-Rag Of Forgiveness.
