The Fear Of...Devotion? The Fear Of...Devotion? Have you ever had a fear of devotion? Differently stated - have you ever in your heart of hearts gone through the following thought process: 1. Lord - I ask you to help me devote myself to you on a daily basis - so I can grow closer in my walk with you. 2. But - I really prefer a comfortable devotion - as I really don't want to experience any of the discomfort that might result if I have to demonstrate complete devotion to you (give something up, do something, etc.). I have to admit that I have gone through this thought process before - however - there is great hope for those of us who have had or may be experiencing this thought process challenge in our Christian Walk. The hope is this - Jesus said that if we obey him and remain in his love (components of complete devotion) we can expect our joy to be complete. John 15:10-11 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. This promise of joy is not dependent on external environments or events but on our personal obedience to and love for Jesus Christ. Is there some discomfort that we are dreading that is preventing us from complete devotion to Jesus? If there is - let us remember that only by complete devotion to him - demonstrated through obedience and love - are we able to fully claim his promise to us of a complete/fulfilling joy in our lives.
