I just shelled out 25 bucks for a news aggregator, and I feel that its well worth it. I have tried every single news aggreator that I have heard mentioned, and I feel that NewzCrawler is by far the best. I tried out the NewzCrawler trial on a previous occasion, and didn't go with it because I thought it was deleting news posts randomly, but last night I decided to give it another whirl. Again posts seemed to be randomly disappearing. This time I got to the bottom of what was happening.
A limitation of the trial is that it deletes news headlines 7 days from when they are downloaded (so I thought). In RSS 2.0, items can contain an optional pubDate element. Now, NewzCrawler will list these items with a "Receive Date" of the pubDate (which is cool, I like to know when the post was actually made), but NewzCrawler is deleting news based on this date. Even though I downloaded a post today, if the pubdate was 7 days ago the post will be deleted when NewzCralwer is restarted. I'm not sure if I really would consider this a bug, but not knowing this is what was happening deterred me from purchasing a copy a while ago.
