Last month we played at the St. Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe as part of a benefit concert. On the Wednesday before the concert I read in a local paper that the concert was a "convenient opportunity " for me to present my latest album and that I was "peddling my most recent CD". I called the editor and told her that it was not convenient - as it cannot possibly be convenient when I am not working with my monitor engineer of six years and when I can't use the in-ear monitor system I have used since 1994 because I am trying to save money for the benefit....I also mentioned that I wasn't performing anything from my latest album and that we would not sell any CDs at the concert.
She told me that nobody was going to take the write-up seriously to which I responded why write it then?
The concert itself was fun because it is always fun to perform with these musicians. We performed as a quartet with Jon Gagan on acoustic bass - playing the wonderful bass that Delta broke in half in April and which had been repaired a week before, with Mark Clark on cajon and Michael Chavez on bongos and percussion.
