The researchers say they're doing this because Bluetooth can't transmit enough data and isn't easily networkable. Next summer, Coca-Cola plans to use satellites to find U.S. buyers who happen to purchase special cans of Coke products. They will be winners in a giveaway that will feature Hummer H2 sport-utility vehicles. The giant vehicles will be presented in person, using satellites to locate the recipients."
Red Herring is back, albeit in online-only format, as of last Thursday. I knew about this for about two months and couldn't really say anything, as I was/am doing some writing for them and they hadn't made a formal announcement (but I am still surprised this didn't leak out a lot earlier, given all the writers were doing interviews and stating they were with RH!). An interesting reorganisation for the publication, with some European money behind it and an intention to offer a more global take on tech. You can read more about the relaunch here, here and here.
