Fundraising
Willie Nelson says he supports Kucinich because he's not afraid to say the "F" word: Farmers. Well there's another "F" word we're not afraid to say:
Fundraising.
Fundraising equals recruitment. Both carry a high cringe factor because many of us are new to grassroots organizing grounded in door-to-door campaigning and begging for dollars. But, wait! It's not all drudgery! Recruiting efforts take many forms including action items designed to align ourselves with groups that share a common cause. For example on September 11 Baltimore area citizens will form a 10-mile long peace path to unite in expressing sorrow for the victims of violence and war. Kucinich supporters will be there! If Minnesota state workers go on strike, Kucinich supporters will be there! As the union-busting practices of Cintas, a commercial uniform and laundry vendor, come to light, Kucinich supporters are there encouraging big-name Cintas clients like Starbucks to apply pressure on the behalf of tens of thousands of workers. How are you supporting your local peace groups, workers, young mothers, the homeless, and the uninsured? How are you reaching people?

The United Nations has asked the world to observe a global ceasefire and day of nonviolence on Peace Day -- the International Day of Peace, September 21. As Kucinich supporters, let us observe the call to peace in two ways:
1) Ask your Mayor to join other leaders all around the world in declaring a Proclamation of Peace for the International Peace Day, and
2) Host a Peace Day Party.
Take pictures of your Peace Day event and share them with the campaign by emailing them to campaignwitness@kucinich.us

More is Less
How do you solve the problem of working on the behalf of people who cannot afford to give the donations needed to compete with the big money controlling American politics? You recruit more supporters. If Amway's "diamond" dealers can organize a cadre of salespeople to rally around a box of soap, one would think there might be a market for universal healthcare in a country where forty million of us go without coverage. Forty million multiplied by one dollar a month is a lot of dough. Or what if the 9.5 millions of Americans who were out of work as of Labor Day made a small contribution to the campaign? What if the millions of peace activists in this country went to http://www.kucinich.us right now to make a donation to the candidate who marched right alongside them in the February 15 protest against the invasion of Iraq? Don't be distraught because you don't have money burning a hole in your pocket. Recruit people.

Fundraising Facts
1. We get federal matching funds for up to 250 dollars per donor.
2. To collect matching funds we need the donor's name, telephone number, and address.
3. Contributions are not tax deductible.
4. Donors must be 18 years old, US citizens, and the money must be coming from their own funds, not corporations or groups.
5. Checks are better than cash.

A strong voice for progressives, Hightower is the author of "Thieves in High Places: They've Stolen Our Country and It's Time to Take It Back." His current national tour is an opportunity for regional Kucinich groups to make an appearance. Go! Wear your T-shirts! Have a good time! Be polite, but be seen!

Pass it On...
Jeeni Criscenzo's "Pass it On..." campaign is officially a hit! Kucitizens are distributing tickets at MeetUps, at nursing homes packaged with homemade cookies, and giving them away with generous tips. One returning college student has been helping freshmen move into the dorms. With his services he's "passing it on" and throwing in a MeetUp flyer to boot.
