Kucinich-Democracy Film and Discussion Forums

Jonathan Mark's got it going on...

There will be Kucinich-Democracy Film and Discussion Forums in Amherst, MA-Tuesday Sept. 9 and Keene, NH-Sept. 23.

Campaigns for the nomination for the next election for US President are
underway. Flyby News is sponsoring programs that support the only candidate that voted against the Patriot Act and was a major factor in organizing more than 120 members of Congress who voted against the apparent authorization for selected-US President George W. Bush to preemptively attack Iraq.

The best way to understand what Dennis Kucinich is all about is to see him in person. The second best is to witness a film of one of his speeches.

Flyby News is sponsoring a program with three films at the Amherst Bangs Community Center on Tuesday September 9, 2003, each film will be followed by discussions. The first film will begin around 6pm with Malachi Roths' new film-short, The Peace Candidate [20 minutes]. This film gives an intimate look, during the drum-beating for war, at one of the most qualified and inspirational American leaders to emerge in decades. The second film will be an excerpt [30 minutes] from What I've Learned About US Foreign Policy: The War Against the Third World. This extraordinary film compilation by Frank Dorrel documents many CIA covert operations and US interventions since World War II, representing an overview of a corporate-controlled and secret shadow-government behind affairs of US foreign policy. The final film in this forum is a response to the war on terror, which many believe adds incentives for more terrorism, called A Prayer for America [18 minutes]. This speech was presented by Dennis Kucinich to the Southern California Americans for Democratic Action on February 17, 2002 just 5 months following the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Congressman Dennis J Kucinich's eloquent words brought patriotism to the forefront in questioning the wisdom of the US administration's cut-back on US civil liberties. He begins his speech by singing a medley of patriotic songs.

This speech was passed all around the Internet and initiated tens of thousands of responses, which was a catalyst in launching Kucinich's national grassroots campaign. Kucinich is not accepting any corporate funding, and has vowed to bring significant changes to the US Government in its domestic and international affairs.

The September 23rd film/discussion program in Keene, NH will take place at the Keene Public Library Auditorium from 6:00 to 8:45 PM. This program will open with excerpts from Frank Dorrel's What I've Learned About US Foreign Policy and after discussions, A Prayer for America and then another Dennis Kucinich powerhouse speech at the Take Back America Conference [26 min] delivered on June 5, 2003 in Washington, D.C.

You can learn more about Dennis Kucinich and these films at FlybyNews.com.

Fundraising

Willie Nelson says he supports Kucinich because he's not afraid to say the "F" word: Farmers. Well there's another "F" word we're not afraid to say:

Fundraising.

Fundraising equals recruitment. Both carry a high cringe factor because many of us are new to grassroots organizing grounded in door-to-door campaigning and begging for dollars. But, wait! It's not all drudgery! Recruiting efforts take many forms including action items designed to align ourselves with groups that share a common cause. For example on September 11 Baltimore area citizens will form a 10-mile long peace path to unite in expressing sorrow for the victims of violence and war. Kucinich supporters will be there!  If Minnesota state workers go on strike, Kucinich supporters will be there! As the union-busting practices of Cintas, a commercial uniform and laundry vendor, come to light, Kucinich supporters are there encouraging big-name Cintas clients like Starbucks to apply pressure on the behalf of tens of thousands of workers. How are you supporting your local peace groups, workers, young mothers, the homeless, and the uninsured? How are you reaching people?

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Kucinich Peace Day Campaign

The Kucinich Peace Day Campaign
September 21, 2003
>From Bob Silverstein of www.WeWantKucinich.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The United Nations has asked the world to observe a global ceasefire and day of nonviolence on Peace Day -- the International Day of Peace, September 21. As Kucinich supporters, let us observe the call to peace in two ways:

1) Ask your Mayor to join other leaders all around the world in declaring a Proclamation of Peace for the International Peace Day, and

2) Host a Peace Day Party.
Take pictures of your Peace Day event and share them with the campaign by emailing them to campaignwitness@kucinich.us

More is Less

How do you solve the problem of working on the behalf of people who cannot afford to give the donations needed to compete with the big money controlling American politics? You recruit more supporters. If Amway's "diamond" dealers can organize a cadre of salespeople to rally around a box of soap, one would think there might be a market for universal healthcare in a country where forty million of us go without coverage.  Forty million multiplied by one dollar a month is a lot of dough. Or what if the 9.5 millions of Americans who were out of work as of Labor Day made a small contribution to the campaign? What if the millions of peace activists in this country went to http://www.kucinich.us right now to make a donation to the candidate who marched right alongside them in the February 15 protest against the invasion of Iraq? Don't be distraught because you don't have money burning a hole in your pocket. Recruit people.

(Note: This idea was posted at utah_kucinich_2004@yahoogroups.com by Cynthia M. Long with additional contributions from the group. We've also overheard talk of this idea on the Northern California listserv. If you're listening Utah and California, tell us how the $1 for healthcare, $1 for peace and $1 for the unemployed is developing.)

Pass it On...

Jeeni Criscenzo's "Pass it On..." campaign is officially a hit!  Kucitizens are distributing tickets at MeetUps, at nursing homes packaged with homemade cookies, and giving them away with generous tips. One returning college student has been helping freshmen move into the dorms. With his services he's "passing it on" and throwing in a MeetUp flyer to boot.

Join the fun! Download "Pass It On..." tickets at:

How have you been using the "Pass It On..." tickets? Share your stories at:
