Tanglewood Jazz Festival Sets Attendance Record

The Tanglewood Jazz Festival set a new attendance record for the four-year old event over the Labor Day weekend with a total of 19,654. The second highest attendance in the history of Seiji Ozawa Hall was reached on Sunday, September 5, for "Marsalis Music Presents" at 3,926 (the largest crowd at Seiji Ozawa Hall was at the 2003 Tanglewood Jazz Festival for the live taping of Marian McPartland's "Piano Jazz" for NPR with special guest, Norah Jones, with an attendance of 5,001).

This year's festival included the first national broadcast on NPR stations nation-wide (Friday night concert with Eliane Elias and Eddie Palmieri), the U.S. premier of the Dave Brubeck Quartet and 23 piece symphonette, the first presentation of a record label's full roster in one concert (Marsalis Music Presents) and the first presentation of a jazz tap program (Savion Glover and Jimmy Slyde).
