A study published in the May issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism scores points for male testosterone replacement therapy. Dr. Ronald Swerdloff, of LA's Harbor-UCLA General Clinical Research Center, followed 163 men with low testosterone who used AndroGel for up to 42 months. The AndroGel users had improved sexual function and better moods, lost fat, and gained in muscle mass and bone density. About 10% of men ages 40-60, and 20% of men older than 60, suffer from low testosterone.
The doctors followed 163 hypogonadal men as they received continuous treatment for up to 42 months. An estimated 4 million to 5 million American men have low testosterone. It affects about one in 10 men between the ages of 40 and 60, and two in 10 men older than 60. Nothing was said about the relationship between testosterone replacement and prostate cancer.
