Cambodia declares war on porn.
PHNOM PENH - Cambodian leader Hun Sen has declared a war on porn in the predominantly Buddhist country.
Hun Sen scolded his country's culture and information industries for failing to rein in sex talk and lessons, saying they belong at home and not in print. "This is a profoundly dangerous matter," he told a teachers' graduation ceremony February 8. "Because of such a thing, students cannot progress in their studies." He also blamed porn for "behavior leading to the spread" of the AIDS virus among Cambodian youth.
Hun Sen reportedly ordered officials to stop distribution of porn publications around the Southeast Asian country after being surprised to discover Cambodia had a porn publishing industry. He also reportedly ordered the appropriate government ministries to take porn publishers in the country to court if necessary.
"Their licenses must be revoked, if that needs to be done…. This is a very hot issue for us," Hun Sen was quoted as saying.
Information Minister Khieu Kanharith was reported to be preparing orders to close down any and all Cambodian-published Adult magazines.
"All lessons about sex," Hun Sen also said, "should be confined to the household only and must not be discussed in commercial publications."
