| Commercial directories going the way of the dodo? |
Are commercial directories on the way out? Is Yahoo a dead duck? See this informative article on why advertisers like Google better and why commercial directories are changing. More ammunition perhaps for valuing non-commercial directories like LII.

| Canadian National Site Licensing Project licenses Elsevier's ScienceDirect |
In a landmark deal, the Canadian National Site Licensing Project (CNSLP) announced that it has licensed Elsevier's ScienceDirect e-journals. CNSLP officials say the effort will "increase the capacity for research and innovation in Canada" by making over 1500 Elsevier journals accessible by researchers across the country. Previously, only 11 of the CNSLP member institutions had access to ScienceDirect. Under the new agreement, access will expand to 61 institutions, serving an estimated 650,000 students, researchers, and academic scientists in the Canadian consortium. The agreement will run through 2006 and allows the consortium to add to an existing content agreement that CNSLP has with Academic Press, which was acquired by Elsevier in 2001.[Library Journal Mar 15 2003]
