Worms wiggle into IM. Like airborne viruses, instant messaging worms are fledglings, but very much on the rise. These new worms are also proving that once inside a corporate network they can be just as destructive, if not more so, than traditional e-mail attacks. [InfoWorld: Top News] Between Finances and their lack of ability to pay people and ITs willingness to cut off communication with the outside world, organizations can end up like the medival castle at siege. They can withstamd an attack already BUT they don't have the trade or resources to continue to expand, let alone exist. I think I want to know more about what happened in castle's that withstood sieges. Did they recover in the long run? Sounds like a google and amazon search to me! Reuters Group early today brought its instant messaging system back online after fighting an outbreak of the Kelvir worm that forced the company to shut down the system for most of yesterday. [Computerworld News] I wonder - - is infecting IM going to be this year's hack de jour? And, I wonder if there is some sociology going on here instead of simple social engineering.  By that I mean, why pick on busines to play out these technical challenges?  Yeah, the military is locked down, the government probably is too but then they might not be and just don't tell us when they are infected.  But, is it more than just business is vulnerable?  It is about a youthful desire to get back at the man?  Is it something about this generation?  Where is that Clarice Starling woman again?  I think I need to track her. 1:10:22 PM    comment []
