Ebbers, on Witness Stand, May Have Lost His Case.
Faced with spending the rest of his life in prison, Bernard J. Ebbers
had to take the stand, but his evasive testimony hurt him. By By
JONATHAN D. GLATER and KEN BELSON. [NYT > Home Page]
A jury that does the right thing is so refreshing. I hope there
were a LOTS of CEOs,CIOs and CFOS reaching for the Maalox bottles last
night. For this guy to try and hide behind the "I don't do math"
defense still just burns me. All those people who lost their jobs
and the unknown impact on an industry and the only thing he can come up
with is "I'm just a poor country boy and the city slickers fooled
me." My opinion is he deserves hard time in a maximum security
prison. What he did, motive and cupability is as serious as the
type of crime lots of "poor city folks" go to prison for.
