once were very close. He was the husband. They were the in-laws. Terri Schiavo's agonizing struggle for life — or death — grips the nation and much of the world.

in overture to the high-maintenance, Christian evangelical wing of the
GOP, which is constantly looking for new fronts to wage the war on
abortion and found one in the Schiavo case."
this is SUCH a great line. I
think that one of the top five things that concerns me about this whole
circus. These folks are extremely HIGH MAINTENANCE for the
Republican party. And, with the kind of tastes that drives the rest of
the company into a deficit finanically as well as taking some pretty
big swathest out of the Constitution. And, while those things are
bad enough, I think what I fear the most is that we are listening to
people who believe most sincerely that if you are not with me, you are
against me. Growing up with the Sunday night sermons on what Paul
means when he says he spews out the lukewarm, I know that satisfaction
of their maintenace needs doesn't come this side of complete
accomplishment of their inconsistent, high emotional goals. And,
because they can hide behind "because God said so and we don't question
HIM" whatever that interpret as the moral goal or right thing to do, is
exactly that.
