At the Bear Stearns Technology Conference in NYC today, Vikram Verma from Savi Technology talked about the concept of Nested Visibility for tracking inventory within shipping containers in supply chains. Savi and Matrics are collaborating on developing technology for nested visibility.
Savi is focused on tracking shipping containers, primarily from China to the West Coast of the United States. By adding satellite and RFID tracking technology to containers and ports, Savi can track the location of containers for suppliers and retailers.
Nested visibility uses passive RFID technology to track the contents of a container and, in turn, active RFID and satellites to track the location of the container. RFID for the contents of the container is nested within the RFID technology for locating the container.
