Harvard
University is investing
in evolution research in a big way with its new “Origins of Life in the
Universe Initiative”.
The school launched a multidisciplinary research project that
will include astronomers and biologists, with the goal of understanding how
life emerged on the Earth. Project proponents stated that the mission of this
research will not be to address any religious connotations with the origin of
life, but "We start with a mutual acknowledgment of the profound
complexity of living systems," Liu said, "(but) my expectation is
that we will be able to reduce this to a very simple series of logical events
that could have taken place with no divine intervention." said David R.
Liu, a professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard.
It is extremely important and valuable that even while the U.S.
President is stating that he supports the teaching of Intelligent Design, the
country’s most prestigious university is investing in science, rather than religion,
to address scientific questions, but not religious ones.
