Selling the Amazon for a Handful of Beads In the midst of an Amazonian oil boom, classified documents reveal deep links between oil companies and Ecuador's military....
This article mentions some major international oil companies, such as Occidental Oil and Chevron/Texaco, and is troublesome not only for the outrageous greed of these firms, but also the serious environmental degradation they continue to cause in the name of our biggest addiction, fossil fuels. Write to these firms and let your displeasure be heard. Call your credit card companies, ask them what they are doing to rectify their offenses, and if necessary, boycott those firms that don’t seem to you to be acting responsibly. If you can’t get them to listen on moral grounds, be sure that they will listen very well to the bottom dollar. It may only be a small dent in the obscene profits the oil companies are making right now, but doing what’s right feels oh so sweat. jg
