Skyline Extra Credit

An earlier post of mine got me thinking about how important it is for all of us to become engaged in the political process. Even if you can’t vote yet, contacting your elected representatives is your right and your obligation as an American. They need to know how you think (and how you might vote), for your issues to be taken into account.

So, for this week’s extra credit, write your Representative or Senator a letter. Complain about something you don’t like, or compliment them about something you do. If you’ve got nothing to gripe about, just find out if they have a mailing list to keep you informed on what they are doing. Send or show me a copy of whatever response you get from them, and it’ll earn you 25 points extra credit. You can find out who your congressman are at this site, and you can also get contact information about your House and Senate representatives at these sites. jg

P.S. Midterm grades have been mailed. If you don't get yours soon, let me know.

Do we really have to worry about global warming? Naaah! Check out this message from our President, and you'll sleep soundly knowing that he's on the job! Mission accomplished!

Tollbooths on the Internet Highway When you use the Internet today, your browser glides from one Web site to another, accessing all destinations with equal ease. That could change dramatically, however, if Internet service providers are allowed to tilt the playing field, giving preference to sites that pay them extra and penalizing those that don't.

Of course, information wants to be free. Business interests see a way to capitalize information by restricting those things that were always free, and then selling them back to us, as if they were doing us a favor! What this really means is another monopoly on information, controlled this time by large ISPs. Don’t let this happen! Contact your congressman (HouseSenate) and let them know that you’d like to keep the internet without any toll booths, just like it’s been since it started. jg
