This article from the Washington Post gives a very positive spin on the fact that students spend so much time online. The writer quotes several teachers who say that even the informal and unique style of email and IM has a positive influence on more formal writing, and that teenagers learn what style is appropriate when."The positive side, researchers and teachers say, is that e-mail presents a new chance for teenagers to develop some of the skills needed for effective writing -- learning to pick their words and tone carefully to convey their message."
