The Big Read
The BBC has revealed the top 100 books voted on in their Big Read campaign. They won't show the rank order of the list until the fall, and then they'll solicit votes for the top ten. I've seen more than one article speculating on where Harry Potter will come out vis a vis Tolkein's books.

Resource: High School Hub
From the Scout Report: "High School Hub is an omnibus of links designed to be of assistance to high-school students looking for any number of online resources ranging from school subjects to reference works. Many of the links are quite topical, such as the daily news quiz (provided by the New York Times) or the Today in History feature, provided by the Library of Congress's American Memory project." The Homework Help section will be one that students will want to return to multiple times, as it is organized around academic subject; and each one contains several dozen links to features like an online table of chemical elements and famous American trials. Finally, the site also contains some pastimes and diversions, such as word puzzles and a typing challenge. [Education Librarian]

Teaching With Digital Libraries
Another good article from Xplana, this time focussing on the potential of digital libraries. This is a topic that I have pretty much ignored so far, but the author here suggests ways that digital resources might fill a need for college students. I just think it's too bad that she doesn't see librarians as part of the solution.

How are we as teachers going to make sure that these digital libraries function not just as enormous research repositories, but also as something vital and transformative for how our students learn?.. [W]e all know that there is a gap or distance between the work we do in the classroom and the experiences that our students have in the library - or the experience that students fail to have in the library. I would regularly meet undergraduate students at Berkeley who had not spent substantial time in the library, or who had sometimes never been to the library - not once! [Xplana]

The Year of the Blog: Weblogs in the Writing Classroom
From just up the road at Rutgers, Barclay Barios puts together a pretty cool looking primer for Web logs in the classroom. Some of the links are a bit outdated, but it's still a worthwhile source of info. [weblogged News]

Change Management 101

The adoption of elearning, knowledge management, communities of practice, etc. is fundamentally a change management issue. Here's a nice resource: Change Management 101

[elearnspace blog]

My school and my library are struggling through a lot of change right now. This looks like something I should read and reflect on. I wonder how this resource compares to the Fullan books.
